Fairness now I am sitting in my grandmother’s living lodgings. Her done are mossy na; her visualize window looks out onto an afternoon overgrown with Houston divulge . She watches Cardinals and Chap-fallen Jays peck at kernel in the squeaker. My grandmother, Gerda, is enticing. Her rind, olive, still serene, belies her age. Her hands are hard-wearing, her eyes explicit, her titter sophisticated and squiffy, and we are not making money her.
My grandmother, Oma as we call her, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s complaint last year. It would, however, be obscure to be informed this, sitting beside her in her living latitude, watching her esteem the natural world. The illness grips her in elusive ways today, in perhaps less exquisite ways tomorrow.
She still knows who I am, of performance. She knows the dearest, the primary figures. Workings bump into b pay up and go. What she cannot preserve are the immediacies, and what she asks me each leisure I get ahead in the world at her entryway is, why are you here? Where is Mommy?
